Metro-North Transit Strike Plan

Metro-North has issued a partial contingency plan in the event of a New York City Transit Strike. Metro-North service will be affected.

Dedicated shuttle trains will operate between the Bronx and Manhattan. Contingency plans will go into effect 24hours after the strike is announced. To provide Bronx shuttle service three regular Hudson Line PM peak trains will be combined. If conditions warrant, more combinations/cancellations may be necessary. Please listen for announcements and visit www.mta.info for information. Also, regular Metro-North customers who commute to or from Bronx stations may have to change trains to reach their destinations.

General Recommendations

  • If possible stagger your work hours to avoid travel at peak times. Avoid trains arriving at Grand Central Terminal between 7:30 AM and 9:30 AM or departing between 4:30 PM and 6:30 PM
  • Paratransit services will operate. Expect delays in NYC. If possible limit travel to essential trips.
  • A “Strike Fare” probably $4 will be charged for travel within the City at all times. Check www.mta.info for fare information
  • During peak periods tickets must be purchased before boarding trains.
  • Tickets purchased on board will cost substantially more.
  • Regular Metro-North customers can use any existing Metro-North ticket on shuttle trains service. MetroCard cannot be accepted on MNR trains.
  • Mail&Ride customers holding monthly tickets with Unlimited Ride Metrocards will automatically receive credit for any unused portion of the Metrocard in the next statement.
  • All other Unlimited Ride Metrocard customers will be able to resume use of the card when NYC Transit services resume.

For updates, visit the MTA website at www.mta.info, and the NYC website at www.nyc.gov, or call the MNR service line at (212) 532-4900, or call 311
